Around the world one woman dies roughly every 2 minutes from treatable conditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. This crisis is at its worst in sub-Saharan Africa. After witnessing one of these deaths in rural South Africa in 2004, Dr Andrew Ottaway embarked on a journey that led to the establishment of Health Volunteers International (HVI). Today, HVI connects hundreds of volunteers internationally with surgeons, anaesthetists, midwives, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide sustainable medical solutions in Namibia.

Health Volunteers International (HVI) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving maternal and child health in low and middle-income countries. The work HVI does is incredibly important, but the need is great.
